Already have a plot at Roscoe?

Then joining is easy. Membership costs £5 per year, per plot. Email rvascontact@gmail.com and we’ll send you the payment details and get you signed up.

That’s the whole process. No forms in triplicate.

What you get

Quite a lot, for a fiver.

Every member has anytime access to our community plot (Plot 30) and its hut, along with the shared tools and the polytunnel. Members can hire the hut too.

Each autumn a bulk load of manure arrives and is shared out among members, first come first served. Woodchip and manure are free to members.

Membership also brings public liability insurance covering your plot, so you’re protected if anyone comes a cropper on it, invited or otherwise. Membership of the National Allotment Society is included as well.

The society speaks up for the site, petitioning the council about improvements and the things tenants need.

And then there’s the sociable side: monthly meetings through spring and summer, plant sales and exchanges, working parties and hedge-laying, a summer barbecue, and the annual Fuddle (South Yorkshire for a shared feast) with its silly competition.

New to the site?

Taking on an overgrown plot can feel like a lot on day one. If you’re a new tenant, ask us about an “hour of power”: members rally round to help you make a proper start on clearing it. Many hands make light work, and you’ll meet half the site while you’re at it.

Looking for a plot?

We don’t let the plots ourselves. Plots at Roscoe are rented from Sheffield City Council, so start with the council’s allotments pages.

RVAS membership is separate from, and additional to, your council tenancy. Once you have a plot, joining the society is entirely up to you. We’d be pleased to have you, but we know a society isn’t everyone’s cup of tea, and you’ll get a friendly hello over the hedge either way.
